A person in touch with the<br />otherworld stands out because something normally invisible<br />can be seen through them. The old word for having a foot in<br />each world is <i>weird - </i>originally spelled "wyrd." The original sense<br /> of weird involved both fate and destiny. Becoming weird <br />enough to be wise requires that a person learn to accommodate<br /> the strange way they are shaped within and aimed at the world.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #674ea7;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #674ea7;">An old idea suggests that those seeking an elder ["teacher"] <br />should look for someone weird enough to be wise. <br /> For just as there can be no general wisdom, there are no<br /> "normal" elders. Normal bespeaks<i> the "norms" that society<br />uses to regulate people</i>, whereas an awakened destiny always<br />involves connections to the weird and the warp of life. In Norse<br />mythology, as in Shakespeare, the Fates appear as the Weird<br />Sisters<i> who hold time and the timeless together.</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><span style="color: #674ea7;"><br /></span></i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #674ea7;">Those who would become truly wise must become weird enough<br />to be in touch with timeless things and abnormal enough to <br /><i>follow the guidance of the unseen.</i> Elders are supposed to be<br />weird, not simply "weirdos," but strange and unusual<i> in meaningful</i><br /><i>ways.</i> Elders are supposed to be<i> more in touch with the <br />otherworld, but not out of touch with the struggles of this world.</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #674ea7;">Elders have one foot firmly in the ground of survival and another<br />in the realm of great imagination. That was my Aha moment, and wrote in my journal -<br />"I need to come back to wholeness, come back to my Authentic<br />Being-Self! My Natural State of Being. I need to reclaim my<br />wholeness again. So I started engaging in creating vortexes<br />with CrayPas oils.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">~</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Twenty years ago I worked with an artist/"spiritual teacher"<br />of the Kashmir Shaivism tradition who had a studio called:<br />"Art Iza Way." He used creativity/art as a way of remembering<br />your True Self. Now, I'm not an "artist", but I started drawing/<br />painting "vortexes" (top down) back then on pieces of poster<br />board with CrayPas oil sticks. During sessions he would show<br />me how oftentimes figures would unexpectedly emerge in and<br />through the"art", depending on how you *looked* at it -<br />The Mysterious Creative Unknown.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He showed me how to *look* at art (life) from different angles,<br />turning it, or looking sideways at it, etc., and see what revealed<br />itself. Interestingly my earlier vortexes didn't reveal anything<br />"mystical" :) He was trying to show me through art, that<br />everything is a matter of perspective, which of course depends<br />on how you *see*, and from *where* you see. He would say:<br />"life is a play of perspectives."</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">He has since moved his studio, and calls it <a href="https://selfdiscoverystudio.com/story/">"Self Discovery Studio,"</a><br />and no longer offers "art" as part of his sessions, but uses<br />different styles of Self-inquiry through relaxed conversation, as<br />well as meditation, and sometimes chanting.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">~</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">One night after listening to the "0" video in the Creative Energy<br />Levels series with<a href="https://www.donnaionadrozda.com/about/"> Donna Iona Drozda</a>, I decided I wanted to<br />revive doing vortexes. So pulled some poster board from under<br />the bed, cut out an 11x11 piece, got the CrayPas oil sticks, picked <br />the colors I was drawn to (usually 2 complimentary colors), used a<br />large piece of cardboard, which just happened to under the bed as<br />well, and just started rubbing the oil sticks in circles, one by one,<br />on a piece of poster board. I worked on the floor on the piece of<br />cardboard. It was 11:30pm.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It was exhilarating and calming at the same time - freeing, just going<br />round and round, creating circles with my fingers and thumb. Then<br />I started blending the oils on the poster board with fingers and thumb,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">also going in a circular motion. The corrugated cardboard made<br />imprints as well, as I worked the oils together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Working in this way there really was no intention. There was no<br />expectation of what it will look like, other than a vortex, but<br />sometimes it surprised me. It is the Creative Unknown that sometimes<br />emerges. In the photo above a "figure" emerged. It appeared to be a<br />hooded figure at first, then it seemed to be a cap with possibly a long<br />beard. I clearly saw a face with two eyes looking out at me. I gasped,<br />and was excited. I get excited when there is movement from<br />within; when "The Mystery" reveals Itself in some way, whether<br />through art, poems, or life itself...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The "far away" view here in the photo gives the overall look of this<br />mysterious figure. In closer views the figure got lost, blended back<br />into the vortex. It is seen better in person than what the camera can<br />capture, and you may not see anything at all, or you may see<br />something different.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It'z magical :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Creativity can bring a new sense of wholeness and balance back into<br />life again; and can "reconnect" me with my "Inner Life" - my Inner<br />Beingness - waiting to reveal Itself...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Mystic Meandering<br />Feb. 11, 2024</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">~</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Art - Mystic Meandering<br />Vortex Art<br />Red Vortex with Figure<br />Feb 2024</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /> <p></p>Mystic Meanderinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09746429719911446865noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8905400852427551541.post-42934048463628922982024-03-06T11:11:00.003-07:002024-03-06T14:44:05.994-07:00The Creative Drive - Galway Kinnell<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTFWKHXComnC2fTKspEHamDjvZo5kyNyjU0nbidWmoMw02wTnk2zmkcck5g60GZd5CF4Ur85tgLpy0gw7HAgNQGDFviQ4v_53FqDdMw2W8PEEd_fjJz9ev0p3s_TgWm3BtNZURknSYyz672VZj7XYsJ-sltBsLDgg3K_n1An7Ofm65g7j5EoD6UIzHn88/s450/WaterWhirpoolVortex400.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTFWKHXComnC2fTKspEHamDjvZo5kyNyjU0nbidWmoMw02wTnk2zmkcck5g60GZd5CF4Ur85tgLpy0gw7HAgNQGDFviQ4v_53FqDdMw2W8PEEd_fjJz9ev0p3s_TgWm3BtNZURknSYyz672VZj7XYsJ-sltBsLDgg3K_n1An7Ofm65g7j5EoD6UIzHn88/s16000/WaterWhirpoolVortex400.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">One can have a lot of time and yet feel one has very little.<br />A person who wants an inner life needs what you might call<br />"open" time - time that hasn't already been filled before one<br />enters it with minor concerns, little duties. The more<br />conscientious a person is, the more easily small things force<br />themselves into the consciousness. Precisely because they are<br />so small one knows one can easily take care of them. I keep<br />finding in my pockets old lists of errands that in hindsight are<br />incredibly trivial. It's the fact that the items are crossed off<br />that 's so pathetic - the fact that I actually worried about these<br />tasks and actually did them. Tillie Olson has written an essay<br />on the penalties of postponing serious work for the sake of<br />things of this kind. It's a fine essay. She advocates going<br />straight for the real work and to hell with everything else.<br />And she's right. The creative drive withers away otherwise.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I produce most and write best when I have no schedule at all,<br />when I'm able to wander where whim carries me - both physically,<br />through a city or a countryside, and mentally, in reading, talking,<br />scribbling, thinking, whatever. <i>Poems don't come to me often<br />when solicited.</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i><br /></i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Galway Kinnell<br /><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><i>-</i> from an interview published in the book Walking Down the<br />Stairs.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Downtime is the basis of creative time. It is important that that<br />time not be filled with trivial things -- errands, doing the<br />dishes -- but rather time to day dream, [to spend time in<br />"The Silence"], to meander through the backwoods, to wander<br />around town, notebook in hand, just in case something bubbles up.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I had never seen this before. So I<br />clicked on it, and it gave me two links. I recognized the first<br />link, so I clicked on it. And it took me to a fellow blogger's blog,<br />now deceased! And right there on the page was the poem, <br />"Cosmic Light" that she had posted in <b>2020.</b> She passed away<br />in January 2021. How strange! A "voice" from beyond?<br />However it came, it was as if someone was trying to remind me,<br />that even though I have been going through dark and challenging<br /> times the light is still there. And I still have to embrace it all everyday,<br />the dark and the light. I even mentioned to a friend that <br />I thought my Light was going out - he too reminded me that there<br /> is still a light within that never goes out.<br /> We ARE that Light! And that life is a play of the <br />Cosmos :)</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #bf9000;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #bf9000;">I have since tried to enter that same combination of URL with <br />the number again and it tells me "site not found"</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #bf9000;">:)</span></div><br /> <p></p>Mystic Meanderinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09746429719911446865noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8905400852427551541.post-48744696560960811392024-02-24T00:22:00.008-07:002024-02-25T12:19:00.926-07:00Remembering The "Inner Life" - a meandering...<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-iGYDEt10cG-qr8YDlNFByqlricJMdgxGNAKdZs_IpezZENlIebCovPfIBMPqilyS6PsXCqBjsgVUsaLAwRYIubotBaBkT40dG-1jUCFRXQ5al2EqKNxpDfD6FEByRRxBNzO2uhLmRjLDVOY168COqCG8sfzzSNZUFnJP5gEYaMK_VJMp66oAT_LswHs/s441/TheMsyteryIsMoreThanReal400.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="441" data-original-width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-iGYDEt10cG-qr8YDlNFByqlricJMdgxGNAKdZs_IpezZENlIebCovPfIBMPqilyS6PsXCqBjsgVUsaLAwRYIubotBaBkT40dG-1jUCFRXQ5al2EqKNxpDfD6FEByRRxBNzO2uhLmRjLDVOY168COqCG8sfzzSNZUFnJP5gEYaMK_VJMp66oAT_LswHs/s16000/TheMsyteryIsMoreThanReal400.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #45818e;">What is the "inner Life"? For me it is that Stillness of the<br />innermost Being, and attuning to the Rhythm of The Silence within -<br />just BEing in that internal space of Divine Silence - the "Gatekeeper<br />of the Inner Life" - <i>experiencing</i> "The Silence" that holds all -<br />until the entire Being feels "nourished" and restored - which <br />does not mean I don't <b>do</b> anything. There is always "doing" to be<br />done. But there needs to be some life changes for me, so that I<br />may return to the Rhythm of the Inner Life. I am fortunate as<br />a "caregiver" that I'm still able to get a lot of "downtime" - <br />especially for my health.. But there needs to be some <b>inner</b> life<br />adjustments to help me access the "Inner Life" again... Like:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #45818e;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #45818e;">The other morning as I lay in bed, waking. Instead of getting up<br />right away, I started mindfully breathing in Light, bathing the cells<br /> of my body in Light, riding the Rhythm of the Breath; feeling the<br />Rhythm within again - laying there in silence breathing the Cosmic<br />Light, listening for the Inner Flow of Energy, and bringing my<br />awareness there... text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">We ordinarily think of the breath as that little air that we feel<br />coming and going through our nostrils; but we do not think of<br />it as that vast current that goes through everything, that current<br />which comes from Consciousness...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">...it is written that first the Word [or Logos - the Word of The Divine] <br />was, and from the Word all things came [into being]. But before<br />the Word was the Breath, which made the Word. </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">Behind the word is the much greater power: Breath. If a person<br />wishes to study the self, to know the self, what is important is<br />not the study of the mind, of the thought, the imagination, nor of<br />the body, but the study of the breath. The Breath has made the<br />mind and the body for its expression. It has made all from the<br />vibration to the physical atom, from the finest to the grossest.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">~</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">Breath is a light in itself, and it becomes projected like the beam<br />from a searchlight... Breath is sometimes not different from the<br />light of the sun but even brighter than that. Breath being a light <br />from another dimension, which is unknown to science today, it<br />cannot be visible to the ordinary physical eyes.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">What people call the aura is the light of breath, but not everyone<br />sees it. A radiant countenance is a proof of an aura which<br />illumi-nates it, and the lack of it is the lack of light in the breath.<br /> A seer sees the sign of a death more clearly and longer beforehand<br />than a physician can. The reason is that the seer sees in the aura<br />of a person whereas the physician sees only the condition of the<br />body. Many experience the phenomenon of the light of breath,<br />and yet doubt if it can be true, for they think it is perhaps an<br />imagination. Others, who are capable of seeing that light,<br />confirm their doubt. The Sufi, by the development of breath,<br />experiences this light, which becomes for him a proof of the<br />existence of that dimension which is unknown to the ordinary<br />world.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">Hazrat Inayat Khan</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">From: The Philosophy of Breath<br />and The Healing Papers</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">with thanks to <a href="http://peacefullpresence.blogspot.com/">Love Is A Place</a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">~</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #666666;">Photo - Mystic Meandering</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /> <p></p>Mystic Meanderinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09746429719911446865noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8905400852427551541.post-23510645803512104842024-02-16T11:11:00.004-07:002024-02-16T13:25:16.361-07:00Rest in the Breath - David Whyte<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3NO6BOIYiZY1MjwPzbKndzbE5BKr6zwcZEeXKyS0u50t4fns4KLTR0B8t3RfLVw1Eqy2cYcP8_0DK8PD8oXrrknfZXkvi4biBISVjEeGaKky1ufsLCvs8hFk7_Sgxlo-mxE_PzYYr0zdB-7aetOxCOnfoJZdkCyjXCJaUVU-wKUKDJb03KFLJbDIfIZs/s400/TheThinDoor400.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="273" data-original-width="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3NO6BOIYiZY1MjwPzbKndzbE5BKr6zwcZEeXKyS0u50t4fns4KLTR0B8t3RfLVw1Eqy2cYcP8_0DK8PD8oXrrknfZXkvi4biBISVjEeGaKky1ufsLCvs8hFk7_Sgxlo-mxE_PzYYr0zdB-7aetOxCOnfoJZdkCyjXCJaUVU-wKUKDJb03KFLJbDIfIZs/s16000/TheThinDoor400.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #7f6000;">Rest is the conversation between what we love to do and<br />how we love to be. The Mystery never leaves you alone.<br />Behind your image, below you words, above your thoughts, the<br />silence of another world waits. A world lives within you. No <br />one else can bring you news of this inner world. Through our<br />voices, we bring out sound from the mountain beneath our<br />soul. These sounds are words. There are so many talking all<br />the time, loudly, quietly, in rooms, on streets, on TV, on radio,<br />in the paper, in books. The noise of words keeps what we call<br />the world there for us. We take each other's sounds and make<br />patterns and predictions, benedictions, and blasphemies. Each<br />day, our tribe of language holds what we call the 'world' together.<br />Yet the uttering of the world reveals how each of us relentlessly<br />creates. Everyone is an artist. Each person <i>brings out sound<br />out of silence and coaxes the invisible to become visible.</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #b45f06;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #b45f06;">Humans are new here. Behind their<br />bright surfaces is the dark and the silence. One does not have to assume any particular<br />stance, invoke incantations, repeat over and over again words<br />such as Om, chant, or sing. To me these are merely hypnotic<br />devices used to bring the mind into focus and into the realm<br />of silence by those who do not have the privilege of living in<br />situations where peace is all around them. There is no doubt<br />of the efficacy of such ways of preparation or they would not<br />be followed by hundreds of thousands, but when quiet is all<br />around, with no sounds but natural ones - bird songs, wind,<br />washing of waters against shores - the stage is always set for<br />meditation and reflection, whatever one may choose to call<br />it. Man may not be conscious of contemplation or seeking<br />wisdom, <i>for often no revelations come</i>. <i> Normal and<br />unplanned contemplation </i>comes as softly as the falling rain<br />or the first snows in late fall when the entire world is waiting.<br /><i>While no great answers may come at these times, they do<br />infiltrate occasionally and unobtrusively into one's<br />consciousness, but usually there is simple a sense of peace,<br />removal, and a happiness beyond understanding.</i></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #7f6000;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #7f6000;">Sigurd F. Listening is a coming close,<i> waiting for</i><br /><i>Presence to materialize into words, to form ItSelf out of Silence.</i><br />Listening is a relationship, <i>even in the silence when nothing is<br />heard.</i> Learning to listen is to allow our self to be present<br />without imposing or demanding, to hold a space where something<br />can be told, where <i>meeting </i>can unfold between.....lover and The <br />Beloved; where <i>openness</i> is answered. The lover is the one who<br />listens, <b style="font-style: italic;">whose being is born to listen for The Beloved. </b>Without<br />the lover, how could the song of The Beloved be heard?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0b5394;">At the beginning we have to learn the <i>art</i> of listening, the art of<br />being present, attentive and empty. We have to catch the still,<br />small voice of The Beloved, and not interrupt, not ask too many<br />questions. We have to learn to be silent, because <i>listening is<br />born from silence. </i>The listening of the heart is always an act <br />of love, a coming together [communion], <i>even when nothing is<br />heard. </i>Listening is wisdom. It is feminine, receptive, hidden...<br />Rumi knew how central a part it plays in our wordless<br />relationship with The Beloved. He said:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0b5394;">"Make everything in you an ear, each atom of your being,<br />and you will hear at every moment what the Source is<br />whispering to you, just to you and for you..."</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0b5394;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="color: #0b5394;">You are - we all are - the beloved of The Beloved, and <b style="font-style: italic;">in </b><br /><b style="font-style: italic;">every moment, in every event of life, The Beloved is</b><br /><b style="font-style: italic;">whispering to you exactly what you need to hear and know.</b><br />Listen and you will discover it every passing moment.
