Shift and Change = Flow ~

Last Friday morning all angst about life and living lifted – for the moment.  I know it doesn't look it by this photo. ;)

I usually know I am going through some kind of internal shift when I need to start moving things around – like things in rooms around, or rooms themselves.  We had decided long ago to use the rooms of our home unconventionally.  We have a cookie cutter 35 year old home with Living Room, Dining Room, Den, and Kitchen with eating area.  You know the usual burb floor plan. We turned the formal dining room into a “reading room” with bookshelves, which is actually an “L” off the living room, so is very spacious and open, but out of the way and quiet. We could actually do without a living room or den, but they came with the house. J  We have used bedrooms as office/work/creative space for the two of us and there’s a small room, which is off the Den on the ground floor, that I used when I was doing therapeutic massage from home on a regular basis over 10 years ago, which became my meditation space.

But the meditation space has been feeling like a dark cave lately and I end up not meditating as regularly.  I realized Friday that I wanted a space that is more open and spacious feeling – allowing the light and air in.  And – I thought it would help to have the computer further away, less accessible, so I can hopefully break the computer – er cyberspace addiction - and not go there first thing in the morning to “check” for messages – but to patter down the hall and meditate – checking for messages there instead. J

So – Friday a new movement began to stir within, envisioning the two spaces and how I could switch them out – my office/creative space and my meditation space.  I had to get creative.  What I ended up with is making an “office” out of the meditation space (the cave) - with computer desk, computer, side table and printer cabinet in the small meditation room – leaving the massage table there up against the wall as a kind of day bed with pillows.  And bring my meditation space into what I now call my “creative space” which had been across the room from my “office” space, which is only a matter of about 5 feet from my creative work table.  Although it is a nice size room, we’re not talking huge space here. It’s not like a “STUDIO.” J  However, this room is more open and spacious (especially without desk and assorted office furniture) and has two archway openings on one side that overlook the den that has a skylight, almost like a loft, allowing more light in.  The idea was to create space to incubate creativity and bring more flow to meditation. J  Brilliant don’t you think.  Although am sure I’m not the first one to think of that one! LOL.

I am anticipating starting a 5 week online intuitive art course called Brave Intuitive You - True Bloom Art e-course, in September, and have wanted to create a “studio” since July 1st, but could not see how this would happen in the space that we have.  I wrote “Create Studio” on a sticky note and put in on the kitchen counter. The idea was to remind myself to clean up and organize my then existing “creative/office” space in preparation for the course – so I would actually have space to work in. J  I did not intend that I would create a “studio.”  And yet… a creative “studio” of sorts is emerging…  You can see in the photo below that I’m not quite finished with the “creative studio” side of the room.  J

DH and I spent Saturday rearranging space. Oh my, the bod isn’t what it used to be, lugging stuff up and down two flights of stairs.  That “meditation” chair was a little tricky to maneuver.  I can no longer sit on a cushion on the floor.  But am lovin’ my little meditation corner. J   And my office is cozy and quiet, out of the way, and not on the way to the kitchen in the morning - tempting me. J

Voila:  New Space! New Flow ~ ~ ~

  1. Wow - the new room arrangement look great! Amazing what a big difference small changes can make. I like the idea of moving the study farther from the kitchen. My meditation cushion is too close to my bed - sometimes I aim for the cushion and hit the bed instead :)

    1. Thanks David :) I guess you can also just roll out of bed in the morning onto the cushion! Now there's a solution!

  2. Excellent to bring your creative/breathing space into the light and assign the computer/office area to the cave! It looks as if you've created a much better flow and assigned the areas of your life more "appropriate" (efficient?) placement.

I used to love moving the furniture around but now it all seems to have settled in to an unavoidable configuration. It would feel so good to get rid of all the old second-hand heavy stuff and start fresh! Funny how one's habitat reflects one's mental space, no?

    1. Hey Luciao! Yes, everything is beginning to feel more fluid, although I still need to find a rhythm that works for me. And thankfully the rest of the house does not look like that top photo!!! I knew someone would pick up on that metaphor... :) It was my "dumping ground" so-to-speak. A therapist's delight :)

  3. This sounds like exciting new energy. I love stirring things up when they feel stale. The internal and the external are so deeply connected. They impact each other in so many unseen ways so for sure energy is moving.

Exciting to start a new creative endevour. It looks like great fun and I'm sure will be the source of more new energy and discoveries.

  4. exciting to read about your upcoming class and the creative inspiration it has already engendered. your room switch sound great and the room you show so perfect for meditation.

i also as with loucacio, used to love to move furniture and rooms around. actually at one point i got rid of a lot of my heavy dark furniture but now seem to be surrounded by Mom and Dad's either heavy or dark things.

anyway good vibrations in your new spaces.

    1. Thanks Aarathi :) The outer reflecting the inner, the inner movement creating an "outer" flow :) I am looking forward to the painting class. Am sure I will posting as I go along. Stay tuned - although not until sometime in Sept.

  6. Your "new" meditation corner looks very inviting to sit a spell in and contemplate life and the world, Christine! It's always fun to have a peek into people's living & creative spaces. I can hear the fun between the lines of creating your space for the paint course. When I took this one a few weeks ago, I had a great day preparing some sacred art space! Lately my husband & I have been using this rainy summer to de-clutter and re-organize some room, and in preparation for some interior painting the remainder of summer and autumn. If that such re-organizing and de-cluttering of space makes for fresh internal space. When my outer world feels more peaceful, so often does my inner world...LOL! But anyway, very exciting to hear how you will like the painting course soon! Happy Day ((HUGS))

    1. Thanks Tracy! Yes, still preparing :) I like what you called it - "sacred art space." I agree, creating the environment makes a big difference on how I feel inside too! Having a peaceful, decluttered environment puts one in a better flow... Sounds like you guys are really busy creating a new environment too! I still need to check those links you sent me, and make a trip to the art store for supplies. Have fun creating your environment! :)

  7. Okay, Dear Christine, WHAT are all those icons doing on your desktop?!?! lol...That is where I looked first. As my son often tells me (at the top of his voice) when looking at my desktop -- "CLEAN UP YOUR ROOM!!!" Too much. What sweet changes. You are so deeply inspiring...change...unclutter...empty...Space.
Thank You sweet Friend...now, if you would please give me just one hint as to what the heck is going on here... :)

    1. There you are! :) Good to "see" you again :) In the top picture the "icons on my desk" where the computer is I believe is called "cluttered mind" :) In fact the whole room represents lots of stagnation and blocked flow ~ ~ ~ Can you guess... LOL

The other "desk"/table on the left is *supposed* to be my creative space, where "art" and creativity are supposed to be happening. But is where everything got dumped that I didn't know what to do with...:)

An internal shift is occurring :) A natural outflow of Being needing to create an environment conducive to LIFE thriving here :) So shifting things around to allow for better flow and creative expression. Just following the Natural Rhythms of Life! :)

      Heart Hugs! C

    2. Have been slinking by on occasion but things have been 'a bit' intense :) Hopefully now things will be more in the Flow where I can float down the river instead of clench-my-teeth-down-the-river. xoxo

  8. This is exciting, nice job! Despite the issues with our old house here in the hills it is a blessing to have several very small rooms just big enough for a meditation space and office (they were originally "birthing rooms" which seems to make sense for either present use!). Still, the tall bookshelves in my meditation space sometimes feel like they are energetically very noisy when I sit, lol. But I dread the thought of moving all those books...

    1. Oooo ~ birthing rooms - love it! Coming out of the womb-cave into the Light! :)

One woman I know covered her bookshelves in batik cloth with nice designs on them. Maybe that would muffle the noise... lOl
