Goosey Goslings ~ ~ ~

Feeling a little lack-luster this week, I decided to cross the bridge today at a local park to see if the gardens were in bloom, only to find this lovely surprise - no flourishing gardens – but Canadian Geese and their goslings!

Truly, we live with mysteries
 too marvelous to be understood.

How grass can be nourishing in the
mouths of lambs.
How rivers and stones are forever
in allegiance with gravity
while we ourselves dream of rising.

How people come
from delight
or the scars of damage,
to the comfort of
a poem…

Let me keep my distance,
always,
from those who
think they have the answers.

Let me keep company,
always,
with those who say -
”Look”
and laugh in astonishment,
and bow…

When we are free of mental concepts
and our senses are awake,
the sounds, smells, images,
and vibrations we experience
connect us with all life…

It is not my aliveness
but simply
life…
unfolding and intense,
mysterious and beautiful.

By meeting the changing dance
with radical acceptance
we discover our intrinsic
belonging
to the whole…

  2. What a beautiful park you have to wander in. And so fun to see the babies. Let me distance myself from those who think they know the answers. I like that. Not sure i've read this one before. Nature is the cloth that can bring back the shine.

    1. Yes, we are fortunate, there are several parks around here to wander in. I found this excerpt from her poem on line. And I love your phrase here: "Nature is the cloth that can bring back the shine." Goosebumps on that one! Need to do more wandering in Nature, that's for sure!

    2. Suki, I rechecked that line in the poem, and it is actually "Let me keep my distance, always, from those who think they have the answers." The essence is the same, but I like Oliver's original line better. I changed it in the post...

  5. Thank you for sharing life in your park through your beautiful photos of the goslings in tow.

I love the Mary Oliver poem you selected and her poem's wish for "keeping distance always from those who think they have the answers."

    1. Thank you Cynthia! Yes, that line caught me too. It's a trap that's easy to fall into. I've been there :) but Nature has a way of keeping me humble ~ ~ ~

    1. What delight to have your own pond! To wake up and see these wonders everyday - surrounded in Nature's Mystery! We just recently added a bird feeder to our backyard and I feel like bird central at the moment. :) Mostly sparrows, but still, quite a delight to watch.
