Silence is a Gate - Dada Gavand

In the present competitive commercial society there seems
to be no room for Silence.

Quietude and Silence are not the negation of life, but the
regeneration of it.  Silence is the means to elevate life energy
to a timeless dimension.

We have got to find this unknown dimension of life.  The
whole world is in desperate need of a new-dimensional
consciousness, so that human being can live intelligently,
creatively, spontaneously and lovingly, and not just follow
the ego pursuits mechanically.

Silence is the means and Silence is the end.
Creative Silence is the ultimate challenge.

Silence is the sap that rejuvenates life.
Silence is the source of eternal life.

The Pulse of Life...

\

Perfect Pulsing Silence...
Utter Stillness...
Breath-giving Life...

This is what I come to sit for;
to sit in utter and complete Silence of Being -
the pulse of Life;
to feel and sense "The Silence",
to feel its Aliveness,
to hear its Song...

Sitting in the silence of not-knowing
puts one in a place of really listening,
with no agenda or expectation,
leaving the space open for "The Silence" to speak,
to calm the mind and soul
and sing Its Song to the Heart...

I listen deeply for the Song of Silence...

A breeze touches my arm gently from the window
inviting me to stop and listen more deeply...

I gaze inward
to "The Song of Silence" within,
that is mirrored
in the sounds of silence in the night,
just outside my window...
It's all the same Silence, infusing everything...

I feel "The Rhythm" of Silence begin -

I bask in my chair
listening to the pulsing Silence
within and without,
feeling Its familiar Rhythm
through my body,
feeling the dance of intimacy begin again...

Nothing disturbs The Silence...
Nothing disturbs the depth of It...
Nothing prevents Its Song
from being sung ~

In this intimate Silence I am reminded that
everything occurs within this Divine Silence.
All life, all breath, all death...
All movement occurs within this vast space of Silence
that WE  ARE...

In "The Sacred Silence"
I know everything is living according to Its
natural order - is following Its natural order,
including this life I call mine...

All life is being lived
by the hush of this Ineffable Mystery...
that birthed the Cosmos...

All is the pulse of the Great Silence ~
the Pulse of Life ~

Silence, the Immortal Food - Christian Bobin

For a long time I let this slow movement towards the Unknown,
this highest form of knowledge, be fulfilled in me:
the adoration of Silence.
It is never in vain that we give way
to this elementary beauty which seizes the Soul
in the spiral of a star or anything in the world...

It [The Silence] illuminates the night and its angelic sister,
solitude.  And it is by developing in us this silent attention
mute to the day, that we will find our place in the Absolute
that surrounds us.
It is ours when all is lacking and all is far from being,
to give our life the patience of a work of art,
the flexibility of reeds that the hand of
the wind wrinkles, in homage to winter.
A little Silence is enough.
A little of this immaterial food that The Mother dispensed
and burned it into infinity...

Prayer is Listening - Soren Kierkegaard

As my prayer became more attentive and inward
I had less and less to say.
I finally became completely silent.
I started to listen
- which is even further removed from speaking.
I first thought that praying entailed speaking.
I then learnt that praying is hearing,
not merely being silent.
This is how it is.
To pray does not mean to listen to oneself speaking,
Prayer involves becoming silent,
And being silent,
And waiting until "God" [The Deep Silence] is heard.

Remembering The "Inner Life" - a meandering...

What is the "inner Life"?  For me it is that Stillness of the
innermost Being, and attuning to the Rhythm of The Silence within -
just BEing in that internal space of Divine Silence - the "Gatekeeper
of the Inner Life" - experiencing "The Silence" that holds all -
until the entire Being feels "nourished" and restored - which
does not mean I don't do anything.  There is always "doing" to be
done.  But there needs to be some life changes for me, so that I
may return to the Rhythm of the Inner Life.  I am fortunate as
a "caregiver" that I'm still able to get a lot of "downtime" -
especially for my health..  But there needs to be some inner life
adjustments to help me access the "Inner Life" again...  Like:

The other morning as I lay in bed, waking.  Instead of getting up
right away, I started mindfully breathing in Light, bathing the cells
of my body in Light, riding the Rhythm of the Breath; feeling the
Rhythm within again - laying there in silence breathing the Cosmic
Light, listening for the Inner Flow of Energy, and bringing my
awareness there...  Accessing the Space of Silence within settles me -
unwinds my mind, and fears, and stresses of the day.  It is the
medicine that brings me back into the current of the Inner Life
that abides in and animates this body...  Ultimately it's about
remembering who/what I really am at a deeper level, beyond the
surface existence of being human...

Several years ago when I used to spend a lot of time sitting in
The Silence, just listening, and breathing, this came:

"You must come into the eternal Rhythm of "The Quiet..."
You must learn to live in and from"The Silence"
which does not mean
live in silence,
but to live in/as
"The Silence" that is
from the eternal vastness
and depth of
True Silence...

Inner Guru - Nisargaddatta

All that a Guru can tell you is: "My dear Sir, you are quite
mistaken about yourself.  You are not the person you think
yourself to be."

Trust nobody, not even yourself.  Find out, remove and
reject every assumption till your reach the living waters
and the rock of truth.

[.....] if you stay with the idea that you are
not the body nor the mind, nor even their witness, but
altogether beyond, your mind will grow in clarity, your desires -
in purity, your actions - in clarity and that inner distillation will
take you to another world, a world of truth and fearless love.

[.....]  Confide in your inner self.

The greatest Guru is your inner self.  Truly, he [she] is the supreme
teacher.  He [she] alone can take you to your goal and alone meets
you at the end of the road.  Confide in him [her] and you need no
outer Guru....

Silence is Not a Practice - Fred LaMotte

Trying to practice silence, imposing stillness on the mind,
is not meditation, but a subtle form of violence.

To control thoughts, force them out of the mind, or concentrate
on one thought to the exclusion of others, is not meditation but
oppression.  And to repeat an affirmation over and over again is
not truth: it is control and denial.  The affirmation tries to will
away a feared condition by drilling down into a description of its
opposite.  But behind the affirmation is the fear that the opposite
is true, and this fear tacitly empowers what it fears.

We pride ourselves in our techniques of "self-discipline."  But
self-discipline is the inward idol of the authoritarian mind.  Who
is the self that disciplines the mind?  Who disciplines that self
An infinite regression of selves to be disciplined, until one finally
surrenders...

True meditation is the weary traveler who lets go of the quest,
takes off her clothes, leaves the path, and slips naked into a forest
pool.  She washes the journey from her glistening brown body.

Just so, the mind slips off one veil of thought after another,
sinking deeper into more luminous layers of silence, until the
dark effervescent stillness beyond thought immerses her.  It is a
stillness that can only be discovered, never imposed.  No thought
can produce the vast tranquility that lies between thoughts, just
as no star, however bright, can contain the vast night around it.
In this divine darkness, she joyfully drowns...

True meditation doesn't require hours of sitting.  For just a few
minutes, one dives into the secret pool of eternity, then emerges
totally refreshed, re-created, reborn from the womb of amazement.

Fred LaMotte

The Silence of emptiness pervades all forms.  It is the primordial
Silence of God, gushing tears from the spring of bliss in the
womb of creation.  True Silence is the mother of poetry, the
mother of art, the mother of music.

True Silence - Fred LaMotte

...Silence is the fountain of creative wisdom,
not suppression of thought.  Silence is the wellspring of
cosmic energy, not the negation of our work.  Real Silence
cannot be created by thinking of it, only by dissolving the mind
into astonishment.  True Silence is the boundless ever-expanding
heart of the matter, enfolded in an inviolable flame of bliss.

Silence transcends the world that echoes out of it, and the world
cannot go back and possess it.  Though all good thoughts flow
from its depths, Silence transcends thought.  And thought cannot
go back and think it.

The bridge to Silence is grace, the grace of one already steeped
and drowned in Silence.....one whose body vibrates with Silence,
every atom saturated with uncreated bliss.

[.....]

Is not everything on earth the dance, the theater, the dirge, the hymn,
of  Divine Silence...

Silence is "The Mother" of the Cosmos - Fred LaMotte

Silence is not a concept.
You cannot think it.
Silence is Being.

Silence is.....at the root of the Cosmos.
In meditation Silence is the Mother.
The real "Virgin Mother" is the mystical
eternal Silence.  Silence is the language of God.

The material world is made out of vibrating energy.
But what is the energy that vibrates?
The perfect Silence...

A Sense of Presence - Howard Thurman

The true purpose of all spiritual disciplines is to clear away
whatever may block our awareness of that which [some call]
God in us...

It will be in order to suggest certain simple aids to this end.

One of these is the practice of silence , or quiet.
As a child I was accustomed to spend many hours alone in
my rowboat, fishing along the river, when there was no sound
save the lapping of the waves against the boat.

There were times when it seemed as if the earth and the river
and the sky and I were one beat of the same pulse.  It was a
time of watching and waiting for what I did not know -
yet I always knew.

There would come a moment when beyond the single pulse
beat there was a sense of Presence which seemed always
to speak to me.
My response to the sense of Presence
always had the quality of personal communion.

There was no voice.  There was no image.
There was no vision.

There was God.

Howard Thurman
from Disciplines of the Spirit

With thanks to The Beauty We Love

Personal Note:  I shy away from using the word "God"
in my own experiences now because it holds religious
connotations from the religion of my childhood
that I no longer relate to.  I use names now that don't hold
identifications with the word, such as "The Mystery",
"The Beloved", "The Ineffable", "The Sacred" etc.
I especially like the words The Silence, or The Quiet
as representations of what I experience when I sit in silence
Encountering the deep Silence of Being for me feels like
encountering "God", like "personal communion."
I bask in The Sacred Silence, absorbed, feeling the sense
of Presence, of something vaster than an image of "God"
that I hold in my mind; something which is ever-
present, and personal...  The Deep Silence within is the
Heart of Being, "The Mystery", The Ineffable" - my refuge.

In Deep Awareness
Deeply listen...

of Existence
and
listen

Suspended

Touch and be touched by it -
this Sacred Silence,
this Awareness
that holds your

your
woundings
your
brokenness

From the depths of
your Being

Listen ~

to the whisper of
The Wound

Touch its depth
and
allow it
into the liquid flow
of Life
again...
resting in
the Depths

Keep vigil

The Sanctuary of Silence - Dada Gavand & Angeles Arrien

You cannot meet God through the mind,
nor experience the timeless through time.

Thought cannot touch the transient.
Only with freedom from thought
and from mental cravings and ambitions
does the energy become
whole, tranquil and pure.

Such inner purity and humility
will invite the hidden divinity.

The pure consolidated energy
with its silence and fullness within,
awaits in readiness to meet the divine,
to experience what which is beyond the mind.

There across the region of time
beyond the frontiers of the mind,
within the sanctuary of silence,
resides the supreme intelligence,
the timeless divine.

~

I trust the Mystery.  I trust what comes in silence
and what comes in nature where there's no diversion.
I think the lack of stimulation allows us to hear and
experience a deeper river that's constant, still,vibrant,
and real.

The Gift of Silence - Dada Gavand

Silence is the gate...

We are missing the aesthetic beauty of Silence, the fragrance
of quietude and inner peace, because the mind has become
overgrown and overactive. It has captured us and
the whole energy of life, going on and on ceaselessly,
continuing with its mechanical momentum in time.

In the present competitive commercial society there seems
to be no room for Silence.

Quietude and Silence are not the negation of life, but the
regeneration of it.  Silence is the means to elevate life energy
to a timeless dimension.

We have got to find this unknown dimension of life.  The
whole world is in desperate need of a new-dimensional
consciousness, so that human beings can live intelligently,
creatively, spontaneously and lovingly, and not just follow
the ego pursuits mechanically.

When one begins to realize the limitation of all thought
activity and ego drives the attachment [to them] drops.
One is left with a deep, profound Silence.

Silence becomes eloquent and active.  Silence becomes
intelligent and positive.  Action that springs from the depth
of Silence is spontaneous, truthful and universal.  It is
immaculate, timeless and spiritual.

Silence is the means and Silence is the end.
Creative Silence is the ultimate challenge.

Silence is the sap that rejuvenates life.
Silence is the source of eternal life.

The Art of Silence - Casey, Hillesum & O'Donohue

We all need to learn the art of silence, to still the
clamor that comes from within as well as securing
for ourselves a zone where outward noise is hushed.
Above all we need to teach ourselves to become more
silent, because it is through an undisciplined tongue
that much of our personal and social disturbances
comes.  In a world where communication is huge,
it takes a fair amount of resolution to create for ourself
a sphere of silence, in which external urgencies are
put on hold and words are weighed.  We will never have
a listening attitude to life unless we spend time listening.
That means we stop engaging in the consciousness-absorbing
activities and start creating periods of silence and solitude.

Michael Casey
From: Strangers to the City
via No Mind's Land

~

Words should simply emphasize the silence,
with much space around a few words;
not empty, but inspired space.
The few great things that matter in life
can be said in a few words.

Brush in a few words against a wordless background,
to describe the silence, and the stillness and to inspire
them.  What matters is the right relationship between
words and wordlessness, the wordlessness in which
much happens than in all the words one can string
together.  It's not some vague and incomprehensible
silence, for silence too must have contours and form.
All that words should do is to lend the silence form
and contours...

Etty Hillesum

Silence is the sister of the divine.
Silence is a great friend of the soul; it unveils the riches
of solitude.  It is difficult to reach that quality of inner
silence.  But if you trust in your own solitude
everything will be revealed to you,
as silence discloses the hidden depths.

Silence of Love - Rumi Revealed

Art by Rassouli

Rumi embodied the expression of love in a way that brought
heaven to earth.  He became part of the great mystery, the unity,
and the oneness that awakens the heart from a deep sleep to reveal
the divine truth of who we are...

The greatest of human achievements have not evolved from the
words expressed by a person manifesting greatness, but from the
depth of the Silence...

Silence is the ultimate presence of God.
The essence of love and creativity exists in Silence and not in the
words that are derived from the rational mind.  Every word evolves
from Silence, every sound proceeds from Silence, and every thing
that is created has originated from Silence.  All become the living
word of life itself.

Life is illuminated when the lips are closed, and the heart begins
to speak.

Rumi has given more value to "silence" for those on the path of
enlightenment than other mystics.  Many of the poems in the
Divan of Shams end with the words "Be silent", or some other
descriptive phrase about being silent.  His most mystical poems
and those with deeper meanings often reflect the importance of
Silence.  Perhaps some of the best advice in his poetry is when he
tells himself to be silent as he feels the emergence of the rational
mind interfering with his ecstatic state.  He usually stops the poetry
and goes into Silence when that happens.

.....poetry to him is conversation with love.  It is in
Silence that love most easily finds the way to the heart.  It is in
Silence that love is given the freest passage.  The expression of the
message then has the perfect clarity of truth. If we open our mouths
to speak, and our words do not come from love, then we should
say nothing.

Silence is pure essence, while talking is like a cover surrounding
the essence.  The deep ecstasy of the spiritual journey harbors the
beauty hidden inside.  Silence has many concealed advantages,
and the simplest one is that it relieves apprehension and doubt
and frees a person to embrace an inner peace.

There is sacred Silence inside everyone where a divine conversation
can be heard.  Be silent and listen to the whispers of love within
the heart that long to be expressed and feel the tranquility and
freedom love can bring.

What matters in life is what is true and the moments that are real,
moments when love is felt and experienced, when a connection
is made through love, whether it is another person, or when
feeling the presence of Divine Love.  Pure love is everything,
and it flows from a deep and sacred Silence...

Exquisite Silence

Sitting in my chair one morning there was a sudden,
spontaneous awareness of exquisite Silence
 permeating the room.

It was a tangible Silence
pulling me inward - inviting me into its intimacy -
absorbing me...

Then mind said:
the faucet in the kitchen sink is broken,
gotta get a new faucet.

Silence silently said;
Follow Me...

Mind said: there are several piles of laundry
needing to be done.

Silence quietly said:
Be absorbed in Me...

Mind said: clean your house!

Silence merely said:
Be undisturbed...

And so I sat - within Exquisite Silence -
undisturbed, absorbed, at peace -
communing with Silence in silence...
sensing it, tasting it, feeling it,
experiencing it...
Delighting in the Silence of Being...
Like the way of "the ancients" - like Rumi
who knew the intimacy of the
Rhythm of Silence in his whirling...

Experiencing Exquisite Silence is
experiencing the presence of Pure Awareness,
the simple Isness of Being - just Being...
which is never disturbed by thought,
while thinking occurs  simultaneously...
It's just Beingness being what It is -
Silence...
touching you,
whispering to your Heart to come and be still -
to listen...

Exquisite Silence is the thread that runs through everything -
infusing all life with its Quietness...

Following the Silence takes you to the Eternal Ocean of Being,
where Silence continuously rolls in upon ItSelf,
wave after wave...

What ecstasy to be absorbed in Exquisite Silence...

I didn't want to move from my chair,
but to move only as Silence moved me...

Everything else can wait...

The Radiance of the Inner Cosmos...

Give no regard to the voice of Fear that
divides you and conflicts you;
whether from within or without...

Walk as if the Divine were in your shoes,
walking you -
The Inner Cosmic Divine;
undivided by earthly "tribes"
of culture, religion, and politics,
earthly boundaries,
or the divided mentations of
mediocre minds;
yours and others.

Fall into the Inner Rhythm of
The Universal Eternal Being,
the ubiquitous Divine Presence
inherently everywhere at all times,
simultaneously,
 in and through life.

Do not listen to the 10,000 teachings
in your head that you have
accumulated over the years,
all trying to tell you what is true,
which way to go,
and how to be.

Just sit, be still, and listen...

Fall into the Silence and Radiance of
the Inner Cosmic Rhythm,
until you feel the
Inner Cosmos
move
you

Just Breathe...

Wait...

Then you will know what is true,
which way to go,
and
how to Be...

For Christmas - Silent Benediction - Eloratea

It came unexpectedly.
Descending from the unseen regions,
above the highest mountain tops,
behind the distant.....realms,
from the hidden abode of the Light of the world...

It came down silently.

And Silence came upon the whole field,
gentle, profound, even substantially perceptible in its
insubstantiality.
Firstly touching, embracing and uplifting everything
in its strong hold;
standing in itself without any support,
extending without limits, in all directions and
dimensions.
And peace and serenity suffused the field,
releasing like fragrance, a feeling of timeless freedom
and great joy.
And everything was coming out of that Silence,
and returning back to it;
as one seamless, dynamic...unfolding,
from one eternal fountain,
as one weightless field of Life,
one unobstructed and ceasless
refraction of Light.
