Inner Guru - Nisargaddatta

All that a Guru can tell you is: "My dear Sir, you are quite
mistaken about yourself.  You are not the person you think
yourself to be."

Trust nobody, not even yourself.  Find out, remove and
reject every assumption till your reach the living waters
and the rock of truth.

[.....] if you stay with the idea that you are
not the body nor the mind, nor even their witness, but
altogether beyond, your mind will grow in clarity, your desires -
in purity, your actions - in clarity and that inner distillation will
take you to another world, a world of truth and fearless love.

[.....]  Confide in your inner self.

The greatest Guru is your inner self.  Truly, he [she] is the supreme
teacher.  He [she] alone can take you to your goal and alone meets
you at the end of the road.  Confide in him [her] and you need no
outer Guru....

The Explosion of the Superficial - Eric Baret

As long as one carries within oneself
the capacity to be appeased by a car,
a house, a woman, a dog, a profession,
a future, a past, a knowledge, a spirituality,
a teaching, there is not yet this ardor indispensable
to the bursting of what must burst.
This total madness of dissatisfaction
is the energy necessary for
the explosion of what is superficial in us.

The Scandal - Eric Baret

The scandal is to make people believe that through some
exercises they will be better and their deep questioning will
be satisfied.  It is to make people believe that by following
this therapy, by adopting that concept, by wearing a particular
color of clothes, by hanging on their wall or to their neck a
picture of a popular guru, it will bring about a profound
questioning.  That is charlatanry.

Real life is facing the moment.  The different possibilities
of conflict express themselves in the world: you face them,
you look at what is touched in you, you look at what is
death, destruction.  In this way, you realize what you are.
When your house is destroyed, when your body is broken,
when your family is wiped out, you realize to what extent
you are free or not from yourself.  But to sit in a room to
do yoga, to chew hundred times a mouthful of brown rice...
of course, you feel good, but there is no questioning.

...it is the cataclysms that deeply question the human being,
they make him ask the real questions.  Everything else
makes him sleep.  So, it should be very clear that the state
of the world is its chance.  Unfortunately, there are times
when a cataclysm is the only way to bring about a
questioning.  All this romanticism of yoga, of the East,
of spirituality, all these spiritual techniques of progression,
of purification, they really are a waste of money and energy.
One day they will completely disappear, and maybe that day
we won't need cataclysms to wake up.

Follow Your Genuine Self - Eric Baret

Fear, rage, love, sadness or any other emotion
with no apparent cause are bursting bubbles in a
boiling magma back to the heart of what is essential.
Lacking in clarity, we link the emotion to a situation,
and allow it to disturb our peace.  In reality, emotion
points to the heart.
When we refuse an emotion we are
simply postponing life.  Emotion is inherently free of
thought or knowledge.  If we remain present to our
emotions, the habit of attributing them to an external
cause will, sooner or later, fall away.

If you meet someone who is at peace, you can feel peace
in their presence.  The important thing is to realize that this
peace you feel is your own emotion as well.....experience
this openness that you experience in the so-called other.
Stay present to it...  What you feel in the other is also
your experience...

You might occasionally go to listen to [a spiritual teacher],
but you realize what you hear to be true on his lips is
your own truth...

You must follow yourself when you feel a true emotion.
You might be reading a text by Meister Eckhart and an
emotion arises in you.  Close the book; the text will fall away.
The important thing is the tear sliding down your cheek.  This
is your treasure, your direction, your teaching.
  It is what
you must follow, must listen to....

Heart-to-Heart Resonance - Eric Baret and Rumi

The heart is yearning to be open.
When a heart meets an open heart,
when a match approaches a lighted match,
it rejoices in unity, in the flame...
This is called transmission.
But nothing is transmitted.
No one transmits, no one receives;
There is [just] heart-to-heart [resonance].
There is only one heart.

Eric Baret

Some souls have gotten free of their bodies.
Do you see them?
Open your eyes for those who escape to meet
with other escapees, whose hearts associate in a way
they have of leaving their false selves to live
in a truer Self...

Rumi
From: Escaping to the Forest

~

What does pre-eternity mean to you?
What is your origin?  The Source?
What is spirit?
Spend your life finding out your own state.
Those other mysteries will come clear.
God is depth.  And you, you are also deep.
The same depth is in you.

Don't worry about terminology, pre-existence,
the original face, spirit, soul.
Search within yourself.
The great mystery is there.
I want someone with a living pulse,
a living friend...

The "Essential" - Baret and Adams

At some point you no longer seek to be less this and more that,
to be without fear, to be without desire; you seek nothing.
This can be called a form of respect for The Essential.
The Essential is not something that is hidden behind the
appearance - these are beautiful Indian stories - the Essential
is what is Here. There is nothing else than that.  There is nothing
to understand, there is simply nothing.  That's what is reflected
as lightness that apparently arises when the situations suit
your ideology and which apparently disappears when the
situations do not correspond to your plan for humanity...
 [or yourself :) ]

Silence is the ultimate reality.  Everything exists in this
world through silence.  True silence really means
going deep within yourself to that place where nothing
is happening, where you transcend time and space.
You go into a brand new dimension of nothingness.
That's your real home.
In deep silence there is not good or bad,
no one trying to achieve anything.
Just being, pure being...

The Invisible Flame - Eric Baret & Mooji

The heart is yearning to be open.
When a heart meets an open heart,
when a match approaches a lighted match,
it rejoices in unity, in the flame;
there is no longer a match.
This is called transmission.
But nothing is transmitted.
No one transmits, no one receives.
There is heart-to-heart transmission.
There is only one heart...

Don't take the behavior of the mind and body
to be a reading of your true Self.
Let everything happen,
but know and confirm inwardly,
you are watching everything from a very stable place...

There is a stillness there.
There is an untouched silence.
You must acknowledge this.
You must be like the Polar Star in the heavens.
Your heart is the Polar Star, the North Star.
Everything is revolving but it is still - unmoving.
You are the stillness,
the Silence inside which all is moving.
You only have to recognize and love that.
and nothing will trouble you.

Everything is the flow of time.
Everything is coming and going,
including even this body.
It is like a burning candle.
But there is an invisible flame inside
that never goes out.

Fix your attention inside the Formless
and leave the rest to God.
[However we know "God" to be]

"Spirituality" is a Concept - Eric Baret

Spirituality is a concept.  What people project on so-called
spirituality, they used to project on their Boy Scout team when
they were six, on their football team when they were ten, on
politics at twenty and on marriage at thirty...  The void that we try
to fill with a doll, an electric train, a good grade at school, a
career, a child, we then try to project onto spirituality...

True spirituality is gratitude.

True spirituality is a stillness that makes one available for
 every moment.

Wanting to set ourselves free from all our problems to become
"spiritual", to become "awakened", all comes from fear.

There comes a time when you don't feel the need to look for
yourself in the different currents of life.
  Then there isn't any
word, any direction, any knowledge, any school, any lineage,
any teaching, and, above all, any spiritual person.
What remains is non-separateness.

[You] understand that there is nothing to understand, nothing to
acquire. [You] don't need to invent tools to face life, to create ways
to defend or affirm yourself to deal with situations.
[You] look honestly at what is, what triggers fear, anxiety,
pretense, defense in yourself.  [You] clearly accept
your pretense, your limits.  These limits will reflect the Limitless.

Your clarity shines light on all that...
You are shining light into spirituality, not the other way around.

...when [you] project a superior/inferior [projection on life] - spiritual
things that ought to set [you] free from ordinary life - then [you]
are in [your] imagination.

Let's function in day to day life: eat, sleep, love, see, feel, look.
Let all the emotions live inside us. Nothing to defend, to affirm,
to know. We do not need anything to get a feeling for the
 Primordial.
No need to change anything in ourselves.

What is Seeking? - Eric Baret

Seeking is an expression of truth, it's not a Way.
All the yoga practices are an expression of truth.
Yoga does not bring [us] to truth but truth expresses itself
through yoga.  Sadhana [spiritual practice] is an expression.
It is because you fore-feel Silence that your life becomes sadhana.
But to do sadhana, to reach Silence is the wrong way of thinking.
The very fact that you look for something is a proof you already feel it.
The very fact that you asked the question proves you know the answer
The answer is before the question.  You only ask a question because
you fore-feel the answer, or else you cannot ask the question.
So when you look for God, this looking comes from God directly.
It's [seeking] just an expression.  But the looking does not bring you to
what you look for.  What you look for is behind you...
...you are not the finder of anything - the truth is in back of us,
not in front of us.  That's why it can never be reached, it can never
be understood...

Only listen towards Life itself...  Open yourself to what is really here...
Life is experienced in the body, viscerally, palpably, as vibration,
as energy...  The mind only functions with words...  But the thoughts
that come from the deep Silence, with words that come out from the
Depths, are also expressions of Life...
They come from the Silence to bring you back to Silence...

Open to experiencing without words...

Listen with your whole being...

Back... behind... before, ever deeper,
seeking the experience of Pure Being,
Before I knew anything of "myself."
