Quiet Whispers...

Lately I've been hearing Quiet Whispers
in my chest, telling me that "everything will be okay" -
while standing at the sink doing dishes,
while making sandwiches for lunch -
or dicing carrots or peeling potatoes;
late at night just before sleep;
even watching TV.

Suddenly my Heart goes Quiet,
I feel pulled inward,
and "It" whispers:
"Everything will be okay."
And I am suddenly at peace...

Now I listen for the Quiet space inside,
reigniting inspiration,
tapping me into my own inner knowing
telling me that "everything will be okay."
Nobody else can tell me this;
they don't know...

Only my own Quiet Heart Knows...

I listen to the whispers...

Listening for the Whispers of The Beloved - Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

...listening is not an effort, not a technique...
Listening springs from the desire to be with the one
whom you want to hear ["The Beloved" - or however one
calls the Source].  Listening is a coming close, waiting for
Presence to materialize into words, to form ItSelf out of Silence.
Listening is a relationship, even in the silence when nothing is
heard.
Learning to listen is to allow our self to be present
without imposing or demanding, to hold a space where something
can be told, where meeting can unfold between.....lover and The
Beloved; where openness is answered.  The lover is the one who
listens, whose being is born to listen for The Beloved. Without
the lover, how could the song of The Beloved be heard?

At the beginning we have to learn the art of listening, the art of
being present, attentive and empty.  We have to catch the still,
small voice of The Beloved, and not interrupt, not ask too many
questions.  We have to learn to be silent, because listening is
born from silence.
The listening of the heart is always an act
of love, a coming together [communion], even when nothing is
heard.
Listening is wisdom.  It is feminine, receptive, hidden...
Rumi knew how central a part it plays in our wordless
relationship with The Beloved.  He said:

"Make everything in you an ear, each atom of your being,
and you will hear at every moment what the Source is
whispering to you, just to you and for you..."

You are - we all are - the beloved of The Beloved, and in
every moment, in every event of life, The Beloved is
whispering to you exactly what you need to hear and know.
Listen and you will discover it every passing moment. Listen,
and your whole life will become a conversation in thought
and action between you and The Beloved directly, wordlessly,
now and always.

We need to discover
how the heart listens to its Beloved.

Day 6 of "The Pause"

~

Days 7-9 of "The Pause" were spent in deep rest and self-care,
listening to Yoga Nidra - Deep Rest by Kathleen Knipp,
and "Allowing" by Adyashanti on a CD what I've had for
years.  I still take long pauses during the day, resting and
listening for the whispers of The Beloved.

The Ocean and The Wave - Fred LaMotte

...a wave does not need to go anywhere to merge with the sea.
No distance ever exists between the wave and the water.  At
it's peak, the wave may appear to be an individual, but at its
base, every wave is already the whole ocean.  Therefore, no
energy is required for a wave to return to its resting state. As
the wave returns, in fact energy increases.  The practice of
meditation is not an effort to rise upward: it is settling down
to rest in the simplest state.

Meditation is not concentration, but de-concentration.
When the wave settles into the sea, it does not become
more concentrated, but gracefully expands into boundlessness.

Returning to the sea, a wave makes a gentle sound, sizzling
cool, fresh over sand.  As mind settles back into Source, there
is a faint whisper: the sound of the finite dissolving into the
Infinite...

Real meditation is not an attempt to rise above the physical
body.  Meditation is listening to what the body actually is:
infinite spiritual energy.
For every photon and atom of the
body is permeated with the same creative sound - waves merging
with the sea...

The sea whispers in the wave:
so the Almighty whispers in every particle of the body.

Gift from The Mystery - Danna Faulds

When I listen, words are everywhere,
riding the air currents like broad-winged hawks.
Poems are born in the molten centers
of stars.  Exploding into supernovas,
they travel light years to reach this spinning
ball of water and dirt, then wait eons more
to tell their tale.

When I'm lucky, a whole poem
arrives at once, sliding out of my psyche
as if it was mine, unexpectedly illuminating
this corner of the universe.

Words are everywhere when I grow still.
Whispered by lovers in mid-kiss
or sung as a lullaby; shouted in rage or prayed
by a saint whose face is lit with inner flames,
it's all fuel for my fire, grist for the turning
wheel of transformation, a gift from the
mystery to this finite world of form.

The Music of Silence - LaMotte & Diamond

 [.....]

We clearly hear the thoughts of God as the
music of Silence.  Then we understand without
believing...

Clever people search for lovers here and there, but
all they find are lonely faces in a crowded mirror.
Friend, why not dance to the [Silence] inside, and
meet the crazy lover in your chest?  When you open
your eyes, the world will be a kiss.

Fred LaMotte

~

[.....]

And we dance
To a whispered voice
Overheard by the soul
Undertook by the heart
You may know it
If you may know it

While the sand
Would become the stone
Which begat the spark
Turned to living bone
Holy, holy
Sanctus, sanctus

Be...

Om Namah Shivaya

She gently and quietly invites me

Om Namah Shivaya is a Sanskrit phrase
meaning
Salutations to the auspicious one

~

Personal Note: This poem emerged as a result
of direct experience of the movement of "The Sacred"
within during meditation, which I have also called
"The Mystery", or "The Silence" - not based on
belief or concept, but just being open to that which
enlivens us from within - The Presence of the Ineffable.
"She" also whispered: "Always come back to the
feeling of The Presence within."

"She" is a reference to how I experience the energy of
"The Sacred", which feels feminine to me.
"She" is always Here.. :)

An Inner Whisper - John O'Donohue

Human identity is complex.  Nothing is ever given simply
or immediately.  Even the simplest act of perception has
many layers... Time and memory often reveal things later
that were staring us in the eye, but we never noticed them.
The quest for the truth of things is never ending.  Every
experience is open to countless readings and interpretations.
We never see a thing completely.  In sure anticipation, our
eyes have always already altered what awaits our gaze.
The search for truth is difficult and uncomfortable.  Because
the mystery is too much for us, we may opt to settle for
the surface of things.  Comfort becomes more important than
true presence.  This is precisely why we need to hear the
discerning voice.

Somewhere in every heart there is a discerning voice.  This
voice distrusts the status quo.  It sounds out the falsity in
things and encourages the dissent from the images things
tend to assume.  It underlines the secret crevices where the
surface has become strained.  It advises distance and opens
up a new perspective through which the concealed meaning
of a situation might emerge... Its intention is to keep the heart
clean and clear.  This voice is an inner whisper not obvious or
known to others outside...  Yet much depends on that small
voice.  The truth of its whisper marks the line between honor
and egoism, kindness and chaos.  In extreme situations,
which have been emptied of all shelter and tenderness,
that small voice whispers from somewhere beyond and
encourages the heart to hold out for dignity, respect, beauty
and love.  That whisper brings forgotten nobility into an arena
where violence has traduced everything.  This faithful voice
can illuminate the dark lands of despair.  It becomes both the
sign and presence of a transcendence that no force or horror
can extinguish.  Each day in the world, in the prisons, hospitals
and killing fields, against all the odds, this still, small voice
continues to echo the beauty of the human being.  In haunted
places this voice carries the light of beauty like a magical
lantern to transform the desolation, to remind us that
regardless of what may be wrenched from us, there is a
dignity and hope that we do not have to lose.  This voice
brings us directly into contact with the inalienable presence
of beauty in the soul.

Wordless Whispers...

Who is here for you,
in your vulnerability,
your fragility?

Maybe you talk to "God"...
The Buddha, maybe Allah,
or the Divine Mother...?
It doesn't matter what "God" you believe in..
"The Mystery" holds them all...

What comforts you?
What calms your agitated mind?
Can you feel the invisible arms
around your shoulders?

Who is your Friend?
The one who stands with you
in times like these;
that consoles and comforts,
that reminds you of who you really are -
on the inside - beyond personality,
beyond hardship...
beyond the chaos and confusion
of the troubled world?

Be still...  Breathe...

Listen for the Wordless Whispers...
that others cannot hear...

Listen deeply...
For it's your own compassionate Heart
whispering:

You can overcome anything...

You are loved...

Sama - Rumi

What is deep listening?

Sama is a greeting from the secret ones inside the heart,
a letter.  The branches of your "intelligence" grow
new leaves in the wind of listening.
The body reaches a peace.

Rooster sound comes, reminding you of your love
for dawn.  The reed flute and thin singer's lips:
the knack of how spirit breathes into us
becomes as simple and ordinary as
eating and drinking.

[.....]

Listen, and feel the beauty of the
unsayable...

[.....]

Give more of your life to this listening.
As brightness is to time, so are you to
the one who talks to the deep ear in
your chest.

I should sell my tongue and buy a thousand
ears when that one steps near and begins to speak.

Rumi

Listening Within the Heart - Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

...listening within the Heart attunes us to The Beloved.
By listening within the Heart we develop the ear of the Heart,
the inner listening of the soul that can perceive at this higher
frequency.  Still, such listening requires both attentiveness and
discrimination, as it is not always easy to discriminate between
the voice of the ego and the voice of The Beloved.  But there is
a distinct difference.  The words of the ego and mind belong to
duality; the words of the Heart carry the imprint of oneness
[wholeness]. In the Heart there is no argument, no you and me,
just an unfolding [attitude of] oneness [unity].  The Heart
embraces a difficulty, the ego takes sides...

Listening, waiting for Love's words, turns us away from our
own needs to being attentive to the higher need. [the need of the soul]
In our need we call to The Beloved, and then wait at the doorway
of the Heart, listening for an answer.  But gradually, imperceptibly,
this inner listening becomes more important than our own need.
Our questions become fewer, our inner attention grows.
The Beloved begins to nourish us [the soul's need] with the response...

Whispers of the Heart - Stoneman, Rumi, Barrett

There is a whisper,
but it's louder than the wind.
It calls to us, "Come Home.
The story is over,
the pages are worn thin.
Come Home."

It's like a chant,
a sacred OM
underlying all else.
It requires not doing anything,
or going anywhere,
or becoming anything.

If only we see that we are this
whispering sound,
all else will dissolve
into peace.

Love Floats...

~ Love ~
wafted through my being one night;
a simple, unassuming,
gentle, tender, openness of love
that just...
floated
t h r o u g h ~ ~ ~

Don’t know where it came from – or why…

It’s Imponderable…

It moved through
like a feather of light;
a moment of in-spiration
here and gone,
awakening the
Heart.

It came without reason…

Just ~ Love ~ loving.

Somehow I knew
that our deepest purpose,
our deepest Truth
is this “Love”
that softly glided through,
unannounced…

We cannot contrive this
love, this purpose…
grasp it, or hold onto it.
It is not a goal, or concept.
It is not “we” who love
but simply Love loving,
on its own,
without effort.

Love happening…

Unbidden
Unexpected

“We” merely remain open
and allow
Love
to come,
to move in us,
and through us.

Like a fragrant breeze
that drifts
through an open window,
softly kissing the air,
startling the senses
awake…

and before dissipating,
 silently whispers…

All there is,
is
~ Love ~

~

And so it is…

Silent Love...

I listen…

for the soft breath of “The Beloved”

like the sound of a lover
sleeping…

I listen…

for the whisper of “The Beloved”

that only a Lover knows -
forever imprinted within
the Heart…

But today there is only silence…
The Sacred Silence of “The Eternal Beloved.”

Still…
I listen…

Held in “The Beloved’s” Silence -
like an impetuous Lover
impatiently wanting
”The Beloved’s”
Effusion

the

of Illuminating Love
into

But “The Beloved” remains
silent, even
elusive…

Unresponsive to
my impulsive need…

Meeting
me
only
with
  Silence…

Still…
I listen…

Strange Peace...

 A stranger arrived
this mid-winter day…

In Her presence
everything settled…

everything let go…
all resistance
all struggle

everything became still…
…inside…

everything within me rested,
not lifeless – just rested…

everything felt strangely

~ Peaceful ~

When She came
life was allowed to be as life is,
as I listened deeply to
Her whispers…

She felt ‘strange’ to me
only because She
came unexpectedly…

She is larger than life;
beyond mental understanding
or explanation…

Yet, I know that I know this “stranger.”
She is strangely familiar…
I’m sure we have met before…

I welcomed Her in...

She wrapped Her mantel of Peace
around my Heart…

The Fire-Light within began to brighten…
Love emerged…

 She was Home...

Simply Sad-ing...

There is a sense that “the path” is changing once again – opening up – carrying me like a river to “places” unknown. And I don’t mean physical places, but those internal places of Spirit/Soul/Being ~ Heart. I’ve had these feelings before. Maybe it’s just that melancholy feeling I get when Fall comes round again – although it is my favorite season. Or maybe it’s a culmination of things coming together – and “falling” apart – the normal cycles of time, season, life - allowing the things that need to die in me to die.

Whatever it is, there is a deep sadness that sings in my heart these days – reasons not necessary. It emerges, subsides and re-emerges – like the seasons. So I listen to its song. She is really the Heart’s whispers disguised in the language of “sadness.” She has been waiting for me to open this window and listen – without agenda - not needing to *define* it in any particular way – only listening and letting her sing her song in my heart - calling me "Home." She is simply another pathway *in* to the Heart of Being.

There is a rawness and vulnerability in being open to sadness that feels like I’m letting go of everything that is familiar, and heading out into the open sea. And maybe that is the gift of sadness – allowing myself to be open to life, penetrable by life, experiencing the rawness of life with its feelings – not trying to be strong, to find cause, to fix it, or cover it over… Instead, I let sadness take me where *it* needs to go on its way to the Heart - as a natural part of life’s unfolding…

This does not mean that I am always sad, or wallowing in sadness here. I’m just experiencing how she dances in and out of being. It’s simply sadness – a feeling. Or one could say – simply “sading” - a verb, not an identity. Feelings are just different colors, different shades of Life living Itself, dancing to different tunes.

What color are you dancing to today?

Melt the Story...

If I melt the story off
the post I posted yesterday -
what’s left is
this weave of words
woven
through the actual post:

‘Something’ deep inside calls me to Live:

The inner Silence and Stillness
that opens the way for
everything to flow…

The natural, internal Rhythm
that nourishes me…

The rhythm of contentment
when one deeply rests in
the “lap” of the Beloved;
where everything
unfolds
naturally
in
its
own
time

The wisdom of the Heart

The depths of Being

The realm of the Beloved

It is ‘This’ that calls to me,
time and time again ~
to kindle the flame of Life within
remembering who “I” really am:

The flow and rhythm of the Beloved…

Simply Living...

fr0m all your wonderful comments:

It is the whisper
of a heart’s longing,
aching to be heard.

Listen to it…

It IS the Beloved…

Just accept life,
not wanting it to be different.
Embrace it
and
let go.

There is never anything wrong.

You is perfect the way you are…

Walk into the unknown
into the Arms of the Beloved…

Live in the moment,

Breathe

We are the Beloved…

That is the simplicity…

Spirituality is the senses...

Since my excursion to the spice shop last week I seem to be more aware of my senses, of what I’m sensing, both internally and externally. They are like little whispers of the Heart – these senses. They come and go and leave their scent. They can come in many different ways and from many different sources – like the smell of spices, or ground coffee, or the sight of colors, or shadows on a wall; the sound of a bird, or the felt sense of an emotion like sadness, grief and anger – which I have been experiencing a lot of this week; or the subtle movement of Awareness within, bringing a sense of felt Presence. If I stay open to experiencing these senses, they open me and bring a sense of life. Sometimes these whispers can come through hearing other people.

Last night was just such a “hearing.” I was in my usual position, poised at the computer, headsets on, pen in hand, waiting, listening as Adya began his radio program, Café Dharma, in the usual way. I wasn’t expecting anything in particular, as sometimes it speaks to me and sometimes not - like anything else… However, as I listened, there seemed to be a whisper that wanted to be heard, so I thought I’d share it, in case you want to hear it too… These are excerpts from my notes. I have pieced them together to create a little flow and consistency…

“Spirituality is a *welcoming* into the deepest experience of life – into the deeper Reality. It’s not meant to be a struggle, or a lot of ideas… Come deeply into yourself, into *this* moment… We live lives of abstraction – thinking *about* life, living in the commentary of our lives and minds, or living in someone else’s commentary. (Oo – recognized that one.) Spirituality is a *welcoming* into existence, into life, into the Essence of what it means to be alive.”

“When we come into direct experience of our deepest nature, we experience that we are *all* made of Existence. This is our true body, not just the particular physical body. We are Existence Itself. We can actually know this for ourselves, in the depth of our being – that we ARE existence.”

"Open to your senses: hearing, feeling, sensing, smelling. Meditate with your senses wide open, feel what it *feels* like in your body to be sitting still – to *feeling* your body – to feeling you heart – to open your heart to what you’re *feeling.* This is what it means to be still. It means to really *be* all senses – wide open. When you’re in touch with all of your senses, that’s what leads you into the sense of Existence. It’s an aliveness. It opens you. To get out of your mind get into your senses. Relax into them, into the fullness of Existence. Just open yourself. Let Existence meditate you, breathe you and feel Itself *through* your senses. Existence longs for its own recognition of Itself – to remember Itself – to be fully conscious of Itself. It’s seeking to become fully conscious of Itself, to really *know* Itself. That is ‘spirituality.’”

“Open yourself, your senses, and be willing to be surprised.”

“To really open, pick something that has life, something you feel drawn to. Look at it the way you normally do – superficially – then look at it and feel into it. What does it *feel* like to look at it? What is it like to *feel* the *sight* of it, to touch it with your senses. It’s a depth of feeling and getting into your senses and out of your head. Pay attention to your senses. How does the object register when you see it from your Heart? (from feeling it). Consciously include your Heart in your perception. *Feel* it from the Heart. Just *feel* things. Open and feel and sense. Get into your senses. What does it feel like from the Heart level? This reconnects you with your senses. When we feel from the Heart it starts to open the Heart. *Experience* life from your Heart. The Heart is a sensory organ. Sensing from the Heart brings a felt sense of intuitive closeness – of intimacy. Just let that in...” Adyashanti

There it was again – the whisper that said - open, open, open – through the senses, through your life experience, through the visceral, felt sense of living - from the innate, felt sense of aliveness – Existence Itself.
